Old Paint. Current Standards.

RETRO Environmental performs lead-based paint abatement on projects ranging from occupied multifamily housing to National Register landmarks. We work from your inspector’s findings, build containment for the actual site, and hand back a space that’s ready for clearance.

We Provide

  • Ornate Wood and Metal Preservation
  • Interior Paint Removal (Chemical and Mechanical)
  • Exterior Paint Removal (Chemical and Mechanical)
  • Component Replacement (Windows, Doors, Trim)
  • Encapsulation and Enclosure Systems
  • Window and Trim Abatement for Conversions
  • Structural Element Lead Removal

Methods

  • Removal

Chemical and mechanical paint removal, interior and exterior, matched to the substrate. Where the material underneath is worth keeping, like ornate wood or decorative metal, we strip to preserve it.

  • Component Replacement

Windows, doors, and trim removed and disposed of as a unit. This is often the fastest route on conversions where those systems are being replaced anyway.

  • Encapsulation and Enclosure

When removal isn’t practical or isn’t permitted, we seal lead-coated surfaces in place. This is common in historic and occupied buildings.

  • Structural Elements

Lead removal from structural steel and other building elements ahead of renovation or selective demolition.

Certifications and Compliance

Our crews follow EPA lead-based paint rules and OSHA lead and respiratory protection standards, and hold current federal and state lead abatement certifications. RETRO is an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm.
